What Is Rise Of The Resistance?
Rise of the Resistance is the second attraction to open in Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge, after Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run. It opened in Hollywood Studios on December 5, 2019, and then opened in Disneyland on January 17, 2020. The ride is an immersive and thrilling Star Wars journey as you try to escape the First Order.
Ever since Rise of the Resistance opened, it has been the main attraction of Hollywood Studios (even when Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway opened on March 4, 2020). Everyone headed to the park wants a chance at riding this exciting attraction.
From start to finish, the queue and ride take about an hour to get through. You are immediately immersed as soon as you step into that line. It contains never ending action and awesome sights. Get ready for the ride of your life!
What Are Rise Of The Resistance Boarding Groups?
The boarding groups are a part of the Rise of the Resistance virtual queue. In order to ride this attraction, you must have a boarding group. Fortunately, you will have two chances to join the virtual queue at 7 a.m. or 1 p.m. If you are unable to snag a boarding group at 7 a.m., you will have one more chance at 1 p.m.
If you don’t get a boarding group at either the 7 a.m. or 1 p.m. time slot, you will not be able to ride the attraction that day. It really sucks but it does happen to some guests. There is only a limited number of boarding groups, and they run out in a matter of seconds.
All you need is a smart phone, a Disney World ticket, and a park pass reservation to Hollywood Studios! Now you’re ready to learn how to join the Rise of the Resistance virtual queue!
Step-By-Step Instructions For Joining The Rise Of The Resistance Virtual Queue
For something as simple as riding a ride, having to go through all of these steps can feel overwhelming. However, if you are prepared with everything you need to know, you have a better chance at snagging a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance.
Advance Prep For Getting A Rise Of The Resistance Boarding Pass
There are a few things you will want to do before you plan on joining the Rise of the Resistance virtual queue. The first thing you will have to do is of course buy tickets. Once you have the tickets, you will be able to make a park pass reservation for the day you plan on visiting Hollywood Studios. You must have a park reservation at Hollywood Studios to be able to join the virtual queue for Rise of the Resistance.
You will need the My Disney Experience app to be able to reserve a boarding pass. Become familiar with this app and where the button to join the virtual queue is. Before your trip, make sure everyone in your party is linked in the app. This will make sure that everyone is able to get a boarding pass together for Rise of the Resistance. When the time comes to join the virtual queue, you will need your smart phone and some sort of clock that will count the seconds.
Joining The Virtual Queue For Rise Of The Resistance At 7 A.M.
To join the 7 a.m. virtual queue, you DO NOT have to be in the park. When the ride first debuted, guests had to be inside the gates of the park to get a boarding pass. Now you can reserve a boarding group from the comfort of your bed!
You will want to be up and ready to join the queue a little before 7 a.m. Boarding passes sell out in a matter of seconds, so you have to be fast! When it gets close to 7, watch a clock with the second hand to see when it will hit 7 a.m. Open the My Disney Experience app about 10 seconds before 7, and get ready to hit the join button right at 7. If it doesn’t pop up, quickly refresh and try again.
Once you hit join, it will show everyone that is linked in your party. If someone in your party doesn’t plan on riding, don’t take the time to deselect them. You can always remove them later. Quickly hit the next prompted button, and if you score a boarding pass it will tell you your boarding group number.
Joining The Rise Of The Resistance Virtual Queue at 1 P.M.
So you didn’t get a boarding pass during the 7 a.m. Rise of the Resistance virtual queue. Well you’re in luck! You have another opportunity at 1 p.m. Phew!
When joining this virtual queue, you will follow all of the same steps as the 7 a.m. time. EXCEPT, you must be in the park to obtain a boarding pass! If you are outside Hollywood Studios at 1 p.m., you will not be able to join the virtual queue. It is very important to make sure you give yourself enough time to get back into Hollywood Studios before 1 p.m. if you decide to leave.
Find a nice place to sit and relax a little before 1 p.m. Have your smart phone charged and ready to go. Open the My Disney Experience app 10 seconds before 1, and hit the join button right at 1. Follow the prompts and hopefully you will get a boarding pass this time around!
It is important to note that if you already got a boarding pass at 7 a.m., you will not be able to get a boarding pass again at 1 p.m. Disney also offers backup boarding groups. The app will tell you if you are a part of a regular boarding group or a backup group. A backup group does not guarantee that you will be able to ride Rise of the Resistance. You will only be able to ride if space and time allows it.
Park Hopping And Getting A Rise Of Resistance Boarding Pass
If you have park hopper tickets, and you are hopping from a different park to Hollywood Studios later in the day, you may be wondering if you can join the Rise of the Resistance virtual queue. The short answer is no.
Only guests that have gone to Hollywood Studios as their first park of the day will be able to get a boarding pass. So if you are visiting Hollywood Studios as your second park of the day, you will not be able to join the virtual queue.
What To Do After You Have Scored A Rise Of The Resistance Boarding Group
Congrats! You were able to score a boarding group! What comes next?
Depending on where you are in the boarding groups will depend on how long you have to wait. If you are a part of the first boarding groups, make sure to be in the park at opening because they will be calling your group right away. The app will also give you an estimated wait time until your boarding group is called. This could always change if the ride breaks down or they get behind.
The app will notify you when it is time for you to ride (make sure you have notifications turned on). You will have 1 hour to get to the ride entrance after your boarding group is called. Time to enjoy the ride!
What Happens If You Can’t Make Your Boarding Group Due To Other Reservations
This is actually a situation that has happened to me, so it’s not uncommon! We were about to check into our lunch reservation when we got the notification that our boarding group was being called. Since you only have an hour to get to the ride after your group is called, we knew we weren’t going to make it on time.
We still showed up at our dining reservation and ate a delicious meal. Right after, we headed over to the Rise of the Resistance entrance. We explained the situation, and they let us scan our magic bands and still ride!
Disney knows that guests will have other reservations in the park such as dining reservations or the lightsaber experience. They are very understanding and flexible if one of your reservations interferes with the time your boarding group is called.
Rise Of The Resistance Offers DAS And Rider Switch
The Disability Access Pass (DAS) and Rider Switch are both available at Rise of the Resistance. You must still obtain a boarding pass to be able to use your DAS or do a Rider Switch.
When your boarding group is called, head to the entrance of the ride and let the cast members know that you have a DAS or need to do a Rider Switch. They will make sure you are taken care of!
Helpful Tips For Scoring A Rise Of the Resistance Boarding Group
We have some extra helpful tips to increase your chances of scoring a spot in the Rise of the Resistance virtual queue!
Have multiple people try to join the Rise of the Resistance virtual queue.
Disney doesn’t recommend that you do this, but every time my party has tried to get a boarding pass we all use our phones and someone always ends up scoring a pass. I have never had an issue with multiple people in our party trying to join the virtual queue. It can increase your chances because you never know when an app might crash or your phone might act up!
Make park pass reservations at Hollywood Studios for multiple days.
If riding Rise of the Resistance is a top priority during your Disney vacation, it might be beneficial to book park passes at Hollywood Studios for multiple days. That way if you don’t get a boarding pass your first day at Hollywood Studios, you can always try again the next time you are there.
If you do get a boarding pass during your first Hollywood Studios day, then you might be able to change your next Hollywood Studios park pass reservation to a different park if there is availability. This is a gamble though because you have to be okay with the possibility of going to Hollywood Studios twice if there are no park passes for other parks.
Stay off Disney wifi when joining the virtual queue.
Everyone going to Hollywood Studios the same day you are will be trying to join the Rise of the Resistance virtual queue. We recommend disconnecting from the Disney wifi when the time comes to join the queue because everyone else will also be on the wifi. Disney’s internet might become slow because of the increased traffic, making it more difficult to score a boarding pass.
Practice beforehand.
We know this sounds silly, but it might help to practice using the My Disney Experience app to join the virtual queue before your trip. Get familiar with where to find the “Join” button. Get used to quickly pressing buttons on your phone. The more familiar you are with the app before your trip, the easier it will be when the time comes.
Trying to score a spot in the Rise of the Resistance virtual queue can seem daunting but it doesn’t have to be! As long as you are prepared with all of these tips, we believe in you to land a boarding pass! Best of luck and may the force be with you!
