What to Wear in Disney in Summer
Dress for the Heat
It gets HOT in summer in Orlando, there’s no way around it. Temperatures can get as hot as 92°F/33°C, and the nights don’t get cooler than 74°F/23°C. Plus, it’s humid. The heat can be pretty oppressive, and I suggest wearing lightweight clothing, light colors, and protecting your face as much as possible.
It’s also a great idea to wear clothing/hats with built-in SPF/UPF for added protection on these super hot, sunny days. Your Disney World summer clothes should be comfortable, lightweight, and be able to keep you cool on these kinds of days.
Prepare for Rain
The summer months are not only the hottest months in Orlando, but they are also the rainiest. It will rain almost every single day in the afternoon, and this is something you want to keep in mind. When you’re planning what to wear in Disney in summer, make sure that includes a lightweight rain jacket or poncho.
You also want to be sure you have a rain jacket or poncho so that you can stay in the parks when it rains! Don’t leave – stay and enjoy shorter lines and indoor attractions because many people flee when the storms start.
Pro tip: If you’re going to bring a rain jacket or poncho, it’s a great idea to get a packable jacket or bring a bag/backpack that can hold it. This makes it easier to have with you for when you need it, and you don’t have to lug it around all day. We have some great ideas for how to pack your park bag too!
Wear Comfortable Shoes
If you’re wondering what shoes to wear for Disney in summer, don’t worry – we got you! You’re going to walk thousands of steps every day, and you need to be comfortable. It’s also a great idea to wear lightweight, breathable shoes during summer. You don’t want your feet getting too hot or overheated, and this is a great time to wear comfortable, high-quality sandals as well.
Bring your most reliable shoes, and bonus points if they’re waterproof/water resistant for these wet months too! It’s wouldn’t hurt to pack an extra pair of socks for those rainy days too – nothing feels worse than soggy socks. Kids Outfit Ideas for Disney in Summer
Choosing Disney World outfit ideas for summer for kids shouldn’t be hard! You should follow the same rules as the adults- be ready for rain, dress for the heat and humidity, and make sure littles are in their most comfortable shoes! This is the time to wear broken in tennis shoes and sandals, and for kids to wear lightweight and light-colored clothes as well.
It’s also smart to bring back up clothes for little ones in case they get wet! They might not want to stay in wet clothing, and not be down for just drying off in the sun like adults.
I also love a matching moment no matter the time of year! It’s always fun for the whole family to match and Disneybound, and this can be especially fun for summer family vacations.
- If you’re going to match the parents, we love Disney family matching graphic tees paired with comfortable shorts and some waterproof, high quality sandals.
- Kids can also be inspired by the season, and I love a cute fruit print outfit paired with colorful sneakers and a baseball cap. Fun, bright, and keeps them cool while being seasonal!
Disney Packing List by Weather
Because summer weather in Florida may be completely different than where you’re from, and it’s also just so hot and wet, we want to you to truly be prepared for what it might be like. Here’s how to adjust your outfits for whatever summer weather Orlando decides to throw your way:
If it is Rainy…
Make sure you have your lightweight rain jacket or poncho ready to go for those afternoon rainstorms. And because it’s so hot, make sure than any jacket you throw over your clothing is lightweight and doesn’t add a lot of warmth to your outfit. A packable jacket is ideal for these pop-up rainstorms, and makes it easy to throw into your bag once you dry out!

I’m saying “if,” but there is no “if” here. It will be HOT. HOT HOT HOT in Disney World in these summer months. When planning Disney World outfit ideas for summer, I cannot express enough that you need to opt for lightweight fabrics, light-colored clothing, and anything you know you will be comfortable in. Shorts/tank tops/sundresses and linen-style fabrics are ideal to keep cool during these months as well.
Also, make sure you bring hats, sunglasses, and anything else to keep the hot summer sun off your face and out of your eyes. We have some great tips for how to keep cool in the parks in summer too, if you’re looking for more ideas.
