Exactly How To Get The Room You Want At Disney Resorts

Understanding The Difference Between Disney Booking Categories And Disney Room Requests

The main difference between a booking category and a request is that a booing category is guaranteed, but a request is not. For example, if you select a room within the booking category of “lake view,” you can be 100% sure that you’ll get a room with a lake view. This specific room view reservation will cost more than a “standard view” booking category room.

An alternative, you can book a “standard view” room at a lower price and then request a room with a better view. However, unlike the booking category option, simply requesting a better room will not guarantee that you will get a better room. It’ll just let the Disney cast members know that, if possible, you would like a room with a better view.

Which Disney Room Views Are The Best?

There are many room views to choose from at each Disney World Resort, and the options vary by resort. For example, the breathtaking savanna view rooms at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge are only available at that resort. That said, there are a few room view options that you should requests if they are available at your resort, including lake view, theme park view, and pool view. Another room option to request is a preferred room, as these rooms often come with fantastic views and short walks to all of the Disney Resort’s amenities.

Prioritize Your Disney World Resort Room Requests

You’ll want to prioritize just two to three Disney World Resort room requests. If there are too many requests, they may be impossible to manage. As a matter of fact, even if you only have two Disney World resort room requests, be sure to prioritize which one you want more! For example, say you request a room with a view and one on a high floor, but the Disney World Resort does not have a room with both. If you specify which of these two requests you prefer, you’ll likely get the one you prefer if it is available.

There are quite a few things to consider when making room requests at Disney, such as the following questions:

  • Where is the room located in comparison to the dining and buses?
  • Is the room on the ground floor or on a higher floor?
  • Would you prefer a room on the ground floor for stroller or wheelchair access?
  • Would you like a specific view?
  • Would you prefer a room near the elevators?

Just as a reminder, if you book a room with the view that you want, there is no need to request that view as well! It’s already guaranteed. Instead, you can use your request to ask for a room on a higher or lower floor, depending on your family’s preference.

Lastly, know that every guest and EVERY Disney resort can request the following items:

  • Crib
  • Highchair
  • Bed Rails
  • Handicap-Accessible Room
  • Connecting Rooms (limited availability)
  • Microwaves (limited availability)

Exactly How To Make A Disney World Room Request

There are quite a few ways to make your Disney World Resort room requests.

  • Online through My Disney Experience up to 60 days in advance
  • Call in your requests
  • Fax over your requests

Making Room Requests Online

To make Disney World resort room requests online, you’ll have to do it through My Disney Experience. Your first step is to sign in to your My Disney Experience account. If you don’t already have one, then you’ll need to create an account, which is a pretty straightforward process.

Then, once you’re logged in, you’ll click on the My Disney Experience button in the top right corner. From the drop-down list, select “My Reservations and Tickets.” This will redirect you to your Walt Disney World resort reservation. If it does not appear, you’ll simply link your reservation using the “Link Resort Reservation” button. Then, once you can see your reservation, you’ll click the blue button that says “Update Check-In.”

This will redirect you to a page with a few details that you can add to your vacation before checking in. Instead of focusing on those, you’ll want to shift your attention to the right side of the screen where it says, “show details.” Click on that.

Then, all of the boxes with the aforementioned details will expand, allowing you to make changes. About halfway down, one of the details says, “Room Location Requests.” This is where you can request your room to be on a high or low floor, in a specific tower, with a specific view, or near specific amenities. You are limited to two of these types of Disney room requests. There is also a box to check if you would like your room to be ready before the usual 4 p.m. check-in time.

To finish making your requests, check the “I Agree” box at the bottom of the page.

After a few minutes, you’ll automatically return back to the My Reservations page, where it’ll now say, “You’re All Set.” That said, you’ll still be able to make changes if you would like by following this same process.

Making Room Requests on the Phone

To make your room requests over the phone, you’ll want to call 407-W-DISNEY (407-934-7639). This is one way to make requests that are not listed as options on My Disney Experience. You can call ahead and ask for your requests within five days of your arrival.

Do know that many guests have had difficulties making their reservations over the phone and have often been redirected several times. If that does happen to you, consider making your room requests either through My Disney Experience or over fax.

Faxing Room Requests to Disney

Surprisingly, Disney guests have had a lot of success faxing their room requests over to their Disney resorts – sometimes even more success that requests made over the phone! Since you likely don’t have a fax machine at your disposal, Disney makes it easy for you to “fax” your requests to them without actually having a fax machine.

First, create your “fax” on a Word Document. Instead of thinking about it as a fax, it may be easier to think about it as a letter or an email. Be sure to include the name of the resort you are sending it to, the resort’s fax number, your name, your cell phone number and email address, and a subject (e.g. “room request”) before getting to your requests. When writing your requests, try to keep them brief, yet friendly!

From there, all you have to do to “fax” your Disney World room requests is upload it to faxzero.com! This website will send your requests off to Disney for you. Try to send your requests five to seven days before the start of your stay.

While the vast majority of the Disney World resorts do take requests by fax, the following hotels do NOT take fax requests: Disney’s Beach Club Villas, Disney’s Boardwalk Inn, Disney’s Boardwalk Villas, Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and the Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

Best Room Requests At Deluxe Resorts

Disney’s Beach Club Resort

Inspired by the shores of New England, Disney’s Beach Club Resort is a fantastic Disney deluxe resort. Complete with casual beach vibes and the best pool on Disney property, Disney’s Beach Club Resort is a fantastic Disney accommodation option.

To get exactly the room you want at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, there are a few tips that you can put to use. First, because Stormalong Bay is the best and most popular pool on the Walt Disney World Resort property, many of the rooms with a water view can be quite noisy! If you’re looking for a bit of quiet, consider requesting a garden or woods view room instead.

Another tip for a fantastic stay at this Walt Disney World Resort is to request a full balcony. Approximately half of the rooms at Disney’s Beach Club Resorts have extremely small balconies, while the other half have full-sizes ones. If this is important to you, be sure to request a full balcony!

Disney’s Boardwalk Inn And Villas

Packed with Coney Island and Atlantic City influence, Disney’s Boardwalk Inn and Villas is filled with fun! Disney’s Boardwalk Inn and Villas is situated directly on the Disney Boardwalk, so you won’t be far from all of the traditional boardwalk highlights, including surrey bikes and funnel cakes.

Now it’s time for Disney’s Boardwalk Inn and Villas tips! First, because Disney’s Boardwalk Inn and Villas is very close to Epcot, request a room on the highest floor possible to have a chance of seeing IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, the Epcot night show. Second, since Disney’s Boardwalk is quite large, it would be wise to request a room closer to the elevator, or else you may find yourself walking quite a distance to get to your room.

Disney’s Yacht Club

Disney’s Yacht Club resort is the posh counterpart of Disney’s Beach Club Resort. With the same access to Stormalong Bay and fantastic dining options as Disney’s Beach Club Resort, the only real difference between the two is the slightly more nautical, classy vibes of Disney’s Yacht Club.

There isn’t all that much to request at Disney’s Yacht Club, besides specific view types. Just like Disney’s Boardwalk Inn and Villas, consider asking for a higher room to catch a glimpse of the fireworks.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

A great request to make at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is for a view upgrade, particularly to a room with a theme park view, if possible. Then, you may be able to catch a glimpse of the Magic Kingdom fireworks. As an alternative request, ask for a balcony, as rooms on the second floor of nearly every tower do not have balconies.

As a tip, know that there is quite a limited number of standard view rooms, so there’s a good chance that, even if you book a standard view room, you’ll be upgraded to a savanna room. However, if a savanna room is a must for you and your family, it may be wiser to simply book a savanna room. This is by far one of the coolest Disney World resort room requests.

Another important thing to note about the savanna rooms is that each savanna showcases different animals. While giraffes can be found on all three savannas, zebras live only on the Arusha Savanna, ostriches live only on the Sunset Savanna, and kudu live only on the Uzima Savanna. In other words, if there is a specific animal that you want to see, request a room with a view of a specific savanna.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa was the first ever Disney World resort, and the Disney imagineers pulled out all the stops to make sure the first resort was fabulous. This Victorian-style Disney resort is the classiest of them all, as it includes sophisticated dining options, amazing orchestra music, and even views of Cinderella’s Castle in Magic Kingdom.

Disney’s Riviera Resort

Disney’s Riviera Resort is the newest of the Disney World resorts, and its minimalistic yet elegant set-up portrays that. In its design, Disney definitely took its guests requests into consideration, particularly in terms of transportation and the range of room options.

Disney’s Old Key West Resort

As the name implies, Disney’s Old Key West Resort is inspired by the beachy, yet romantic vibes of the Florida Keys. Lined with palm trees and complete with an amazing golf course, this tropical paradise is a fantastic Disney World resort.

Because Disney’s Old Key West Resort is a little bit different from most of the other Disney World Resorts, DVC members prefer different request options. While some opt to request rooms near the elevator (as only buildings 62, 63, and 64 have elevators), others choose to use their requests to request a room with a dual entrance bathroom (rather than a room where you can only access the bathroom through the master bedroom).

Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

The original Saratoga Springs in New York was a retreat from the city known for its spas and horse racing. While horse racing may not be on Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa’s list of amenities, the exciting yet relaxing atmosphere of the original Saratoga Springs definitely still rings true.

About Victoria of Disney Trippers

Hello! I’m Victoria and I am Disney-obsessed! I went to Disney for the first time when I was just 9 months old and have been a Disney Annual Passholder ever since! Living just an hour away from Walt Disney World sure has its benefits and I try and go to the parks as much as possible! When I am traveling abroad I always try and make time to see Disney too. I made this site to share my love of Disney with you so that you can have the best trip possible! I am always open to talking about anything Disney or planning so don’t be afriad to shoot me a message if you have any questions!
