Can you bring bags on rides at Disney World? Whether you’re a theme park pro, or a first-time visitor, you will normally choose to bring a bag of some kind with you to the parks. Maybe you’re the ultimate minimalist, and you only bring the bare essentials – keys, wallet, maybe a poncho depending on the month. Or maybe you’re the Mary Poppins packer – everything except (and possibly including) the kitchen sink goes into your bag.

Whatever kind of bag bringer you are, it is likely that you have experienced or heard about the horror stories about what happens if you bring bags… Some parks like Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure are full of free lockers next to rides, where you stash your bags before you ride, and collect them afterward. Sounds easy in theory, but you definitely spend a lot of time waiting for a locker, and then waiting again to pick up your bags.

At other parks such as Busch Gardens, you have two options … pay for a locker, or leave your bags unattended and at risk of theft.

But this is all about other Florida parks … What you want to know is can you bring bags on rides at Disney? Don’t worry the process for bringing bags on rides at Disney World is much simpler, safer, and lets you just enjoy the magic!

Can You Bring Bags On Rides At Disney World?

Picture the scene; you’ve been organizing your trip to Disney World for months. You’ve got it planned right down to which ears you’re wearing on which day. But then when you’re triple-checking your Fastpasses, you wonder … Can you bring bags on rides at Disney?! Will finding storage, like at other parks, eat into the time you can spend enjoying the rides? Does it mean that one of your party will have to wait with your bags, and as such miss out on rides? What happens if you’re a solo traveler and don’t have anyone to hold your bags?

Don’t cancel or rearrange your plans just yet! Your carefully planned Fastpasses are safe! This article will tell you exactly whether or not you can bring bags on rides at Disney.

To save any concern, in short – yes you can definitely bring bags on rides at Disney. Not all of them; but certainly most of them! Read on to find out when exactly you can keep your bags with you when you’re out and about at Disney World; meaning extra time for you to explore the parks and no time wasted worrying about where to put your bags.

What Are My Options For Bringing Bags On Rides At Disney?

Understandably; while at Disney World you don’t want to get separated from your bags … especially considering how busy some dates can yet. The attractions at Disney are designed to have space so that you can bring bags with you when you ride.

You can either keep your bag on while you ride; this will be more or less comfortable depending on the size of your bag. This isn’t recommended on rides like Dumbo the Flying Elephant where there is a relatively small seat just for comfort reasons, but on rides such as Pirates of the Caribbean -where there is a bigger space for you to sit – you’re good to go.

On other rides – ones where you might be up high (like Soaring), or bumping around a lot (think Avatar Flight of Passage) Disney has designated storage bins under or next to the seat where you can store your bags without either worrying about them falling off, or being lost/stolen.

Which Disney Rides Should I Put My Bag At My Feet?

But what if you’re a massive adrenaline junkie, or you’re just feeling brave, and you want to ride all of the “big rides” – all of the mountains (Splash, Big Thunder, Space and Everest), Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Slinky Dog etc … does this still mean you can keep your bags with you?

Absolutely! You can bring your bags on 99% of rides at Disney World, and the coasters are no exception. If you are riding one of these attractions, and you have a bag which is bigger than a pouch (think backpack or shopping bag size) we recommend placing your bag at your feet as soon as you get onto the ride – to prevent it from moving around, falling, or damaging the contents.

For extra security, you can loop one foot around your bag handle while it’s on the floor for the duration of the ride. This gives you extra peace of mind that your bag won’t slip during the ride!

Disney Rides With Other Places To Store Your Bag

We’ve stated above that you can keep with your bags with you on 99% of rides at Disney World … so what about the 1% of rides that you can’t? The best example of this is Kali River Rapids, where it is guaranteed that if you ride you will get soaked!

And since most, if not all of us who travel to Disney World have smartphones/cameras/ other objects we would rather not get wet and ruined – we suggest that you use the lockers at the outside of the ride.

They are completely free and easy to use – and the extra time spent storing your valuables is nothing compared to the cost of replacing them for water damage! Some people have suggested that you wrap items like phones inside or under a poncho. However, for peace of mind using a locker is the recommended option – especially due to the super soaking nature of this ride.

You can also buy a waterproof cover for your phone/ camera and leave the rest of your bags (and a dry change of clothes!) in a locker while you ride.

What If My Souvenir Is Fragile and I Have It With Me?

If you are anything like us, then you will leave Disney World with armfuls of souvenirs you’ve lusted after since your last visit. But what happens if you buy something fragile, can you still take the bag on the ride at Disney?

As we’ve explained, you can take pretty much any bag on any ride at Disney World, however if you do this you run the risk of something fragile breaking or being damaged on the ride.

This doesn’t mean you can’t still ride the rides once you’ve bought souvenirs. Nor does it mean that you have to wait until the end of your day in the Parks to buy that Frozen Elsa statue you’ve had your eye on for months (because we all know there is nothing worse than falling in love with a souvenir, only to forget where you saw it a few hours later).

Disney World allows guests to have their purchases sent directly to their on-site hotels. These normally arrive the next day in the resort gift shop – so not a good idea to do this on your final night! For those not staying on Disney property (or those on their final day– boo!) you can have your new goodies sent to a designated area at the front of the park to pick up on the way home.

Doing this lets you enjoy your day without worrying about smashing that Disney World snowglobe you’d been saving up for.

Are There Lockers Near Rides If I Do Want To Check My Bag?

Since it’s presumed that you will want to bring bags on the rides at Disney World; except for Kali River Rapids, there are no lockers near the rides if you have a particular bag that you don’t want to bring with you on the ride.

So what happens if you decide you don’t want to bring heavy backpacks etc on the rides? There are however lockers in each of the parks (normally near the entrance) where you can store your bags for a day, maybe they’re too heavy to carry or you don’t want to risk losing them.

Small lockers in each of the parks cost $10, medium ones are $12, and the biggest ones are $15 per day. You can pay for the lockers with all major credit cards. Alternatively, if you want to use your magic bands you need to visit the nearest souvenir store to pay, and they will give you a code in exchange which lets you use your desired size of locker.

It is worth checking which size of locker you need before you go to the store so that you don’t pay for one bigger than you need (more spends for souvenirs – hurray!)

Should I Leave My Bags On My Stroller During Rides?

NO! Please do not leave any bags on your strollers while you’re on the rides. It’s easy to get lost in the magic of Disney World and presume that everyone is as excited to be in the house of mouse as you are. Unfortunately, this just isn’t the case. You wouldn’t leave your bags unattended anywhere else, so even though Disney World can feel like a break from reality you should still exercise reasonable caution.

This is not to say that your bags will be stolen/ lost if you leave them on your strollers. But it is simply just not worth the risk of something happening and ruining your day or whole vacation …

Always keep your bags on your person or in a Disney locker (Disney World takes no responsibility for them if you leave them unattended) since it is much better to be safe than sorry!

Can you bring bags on rides at Disney? You can on Peter Pan

Hopefully, this has answered the question of whether or not you can bring bags on rides at Disney World! You most definitely can safely bring bags on the majority of rides at Disney World. Either wear them on your person, keep them in the designated baskets, or under your feet …

Or, of course, if you have breakable/valuable items or heavy bags you can always pay for a locker as you enter the park. Or at any point during your day in the parks. We recommend always following the Cast Members’ advice on exactly where to store your bags as you get on the ride – they will always be happy to direct you if you’re unsure!  And for the 1% of rides you can’t bring your bags on, if you can avoid it do not leave your bags unattended, to ensure you have as magical a time in the parks possible!
