What to Wear at Epic Universe
You’re going to want to think about the number of days you’ll be on vacation and your typical vacation day: too often, I’ve factored in too many outfit changes and then packed too much! Now, it’s important to note that Epic isn’t doing annual passes at the moment, so the number of days you spend at Epic vs. other Universal Parks (because the public can only buy Epic tickets in addition to other park tickets), may also influence what to wear at Epic Universe!
1. T-Shirts + Shorts + Fanny Pack + Trainers
When considering what to wear to Epic Universe, or what to add to your Epic Universe packing list, start simple. You’re in Florida. It’s hot. Even when I went to the team preview in early April, it was sweltering!
Start with a t-shirt: on theme, the better. Wear a Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts shirt or a shirt that features a classic monster. Or Mario! Pair with a pair of comfortable shorts: linen, athletic wear, or jeans if that’s your preference. Wrap a fanny pack around your waist and a pair of trainers for all the walking you’ll be doing!

2. Leggings + Tank Top + Ball Cap + Sneakers
If you want to protect your legs from the sun and be comfortable, start with a pair of leggings. Black is classic. And then throw on a tank top as needed, or, if you want to protect your shoulders from the heat, throw on a crop top.
Add a cute ball cap— themed, of course– or even a headband. The Mario and Luigi ones had me dying! Also still on the lookout for the Toothless bucket hat. Add sneakers to make your journey comfortable and you’re good to go!

3. Sundress + Comfortable Sneakers + Sunglasses
If you want an outfit to dress up a bit more, pack a sundress! This is great for keeping cool in the heat. But it’s also great for dressing up and dressing down: you can go in and out of rides and shops, as well as into hotels or even nicer restaurants!
Sneakers dress the dress down, but ensure you’re walking comfortably. Add sunglasses to protect your eyes, and you’re set! I also love a good woven crossbody bag.
4. Athletic Wear/ Leisure Set + Sneakers + Crossbody Bag
Again, it’s Florida! And a theme park in Florida! An athletic wear set is perfect. The matching top and bottom will ensure you don’t have to use a lot of brain power when planning your Epic Universe packing list.
Add sneakers for comfort and pair a crossbody bag with you to keep your hands free: you’ll need it as you wave your wand in the Harry Potter portal, or as you pet Toothless at Isle of Berk. Trust me!

5. Swim Suit + Cover Up + Sandals + Sunscreen
Some people want to wear a swimsuit because they know they’re getting drenched on Fyre Drill. If that’s not your speed, however, still pack a suit and cover up! This is perfect when spending a day at the hotel.
Enjoy the sun at Stella Nova or even Helios Grand Hotel. Bring a woven cover-up for lobby walk-throughs and restaurants. Sandals are easy to get on and off, and sunscreen will protect you!

6. Skirt + Linen Top + Comfortable Sandals + Sun Hat
Lastly, if you’re feeling more feminine, feel free to add a skirt and linen top to your Epic Universe Packing List. This will keep you flowy! A skirt is perfect for navigating the parks, and a linen top is cool.
Comfortable sandals are good, especially if you pair them with an “evening” or going out outfit when you’re not in Epic. And don’t forget a sun hat: protection is key!
Packing List for Epic Universe: The Essentials
Now that we’ve gotten past outfits, let’s consider some of the other important things you’ll need for a perfect vacation to Epic!
1. Phone Charger (Portable or Otherwise)
Always throw your cell phone charger in a bag! There’s nothing worse than realizing your phone battery is about to die and you haven’t captured all the incredible moments, or that you can no longer mobile order at specific restaurants!

2. Printed Copies of Travel and/Or Ticket Confirmation (And Hotel Room Keys?)
Make sure you always have your materials to get INTO the park: IDs, tickets, and hotel room keys for early admission? Be prepared so you don’t get stuck at the gate and have to backtrack to guest services.
3. Sunscreen, Aloe, Hat, Glasses (& Deodorant)
You’re going to be outside a lot! In the sunshine state! Make sure your Epic Universe packing list features tons of sun protection and ways to keep yourself fresh. Prep for sunburn and sunburn aftercare. And make sure you stay hydrated!

4. Light Jacket
Universal tends to black the AC… well not just Universal, but Florida. This makes up for the warm weather! But, when going in and out, you can get a chill with the sudden change in temperature. Be prepared! Light jackets can also help with sun protection.
5. Umbrella or Poncho
If you’re visiting in summer, be prepared for summer showers. These thunderstorms start in mid-afternoon and don’t last long, but don’t let them ruin your fun! Prep with an umbrella or poncho. Umbrellas can double as sun protection, and you can also always wear the poncho on a water ride to protect your clothes!

6. Queue Entertainment: Cards, Mobile Games, Books
I felt iffy about including this one. Mainly because the queues are SO epic that you don’t want to miss it: I mean, Monster’s Unchained tells a whole story! But if you get bored easily or if the crowds and wait times are long, bring along cards and games to help pass the time.
7. Camera
While I know we all have our phones and cameras on our phones, some may want to pack a nicer camera to take photos. Also, know that the PhotoPass is available in case you don’t want to carry one around all day! But you’ll need something to document. Trust: that photo of Toothless CANNOT be missed.

8. Small Bag or Fanny Pack
While Epic Universe is more friendly with their lockers in regard to size, we still recommend not bringing large bags into the park because of navigating crowds and lines with them. Stick to small bags and a Fanny pack that can be put in the locker, and keep your arms free!
9. Refillable Water Bottle
Florida is hot, and water can be expensive. Bring your own refillable water bottle or opt in for the Coca-Cola Freestyle when in the park to save money and stay hydrated! Your own bottles must be empty when you enter, as a side note.

Other Things to Consider When Packing
1. Comfortable & Secure Shoes
With all the walking you’ll be doing at Epic Universe, choosing the right shoes is crucial. You need footwear that is not only stylish but comfortable and durable, and safe!! Opt for lightweight and cushioned sneakers or slip-on shoes. Just make sure there is traction, because if it rain,s Mario’s world gets slippery!
2. Small First Aid Kit
Although there are first aid spots located throughout Epic, these cheap, small kits are great for taking along just in case. You may be too far from stations, or you have a minor need for a Band-Aid. It’s easy to treat if you’ve brought the right supplies. And blisters are common!

3. Hand Sanitizer and Baby Wipes
We all know the first few months of opening are going to be CROWDED. And we all know people touch rides and bars, and poles often. So if you’re in a sticky situation, have hand sanitizer and/or baby wipes ready to go!
4. Plastic Zipper Bags
Even though Epic isn’t a water park, there is a water ride. So you don’t want to get everything wet: protect your phone, money, etc. I also like to use this just to make sure that if anything bursts in my larger bags, my items are safe!

5. Acupressure Anti-Nausea Wristband
If you’re anything like some of my friends, you get sick easily. On rides like Monsters Unchained, the sheer movement can cause sickness and nausea. These wristbands are perfect for motion rides and won’t bring drowsiness into the equation!
6. Friction Defense Stick
It’s hot. The chafing is real. As is the sweat. If you know you’re walking a lot, and maybe not resting (there are only two shows… so not a lot of “down time”) bring a defense stick to avoid pain!

7. Liquid IV Packs
Hydration is key, especially in Florida. While waiting for Stardust Racers, my fiancé felt sick and ill in the heat. What we wouldn’t have given to have an electrolyte pack with us in that moment! Instead, he had to miss the ride, and we traveled around the park searching for Powerade, wasting time and exhausting ourselves since many places didn’t have Powerade.
8. Stasher Scrunchies
Epic has a new locker system, which is reviewed in our “everything you need to know about Epic” article, but in case you want to have some items on hand not on the ride, get a stasher scrunchie! This allows you to fill your hair tie with little carry-on items like lip balm or cash. Wear it in your hair or on your wrist!

And there you have it, folks! Some outfit suggestions, the essentials, and some other tips and tricks for what to pack. An Epic Universe packing list doesn’t have to be stressful to put together. Think of comfort, coolness, and clarity: you want to have fun, stay relaxed, and be prepared with the things you need. Just know, whatever you bring, you day will be epic!
